c) What percent of Nigerians oppose same-sex marriage?
d) Discussion questions:
From the news brief: "Some have suggested Nigeria’s new law and a proposed [law] in Uganda were a backlash to Western pressure for gay rights." Some people who say the U.S. should not impose our values on other countries believe we should oppose laws prohibiting same-sex marriage, etc. as a human rights issue.
Should the U.S./West/UN determine the laws of other countries? If so, what should we do about countries where women's rights are being violated? (e.g. women not permitted to go out in public without a male guardian, women must cover their hair and/or face etc.) Are women's rights as important as same-sex rights?
