1. Govenor Bevin said the following in his response:
The point I made…is that the idea [that you can solve] school shootings with a single law (gun control) is naive and delusional.
The point that I made is that if we think a part of what we’re seeing is not a cultural problem then we’re kidding ourselves.
The point that I’ve made is this: What has shifted in the last 10 - 20 - 30 - 40 - 50 years? - Not the percent of guns we find in homes - When I was a kid, kids brought guns to schools but didn’t shoot each other… What has changed? We don’t value human life like we did [in the past]. We remove respect for the dignity of other people:
Desensitize is to make (someone) less likely to feel shock or distress at scenes of cruelty or suffering by overexposure to such images.
What do you think about Gov. Bevin's assertion about violent video games, music, TV shows and movies? (Ask an adult over 40 the same question.)
2. As opposed to a written commentary, Gov. Bevin gave a verbal commentary. Do you think he has a persuasive argument? (Does he make valid points? Valid is defined as having a sound basis in logic or fact.) Explain your answer.
