1. What are CFLs? In what countries/states are bans on incandescent light bulbs in favor of CFLs being considered or already adopted?

3. Describe the immediate problem with CFLs and the potential large scale problems if they become the only bulbs available for purchase.
4. What is ironic about environmental activist groups Environmental Defense and Greenpeace's promotion of CFLs?
5. Do you use any CFLs in your home or know anyone who does? Share this article with them and ask if they were aware of the mercury problem. Will this affect your/their future purchases of CFLs? Why or why not?
6. At the end of his article, Steve Milloy asks: "Should government (egged on by environmentalists and the Wal-Marts of the world) impose on us such higher costs, denial of lighting choice, disposal hassles and breakage risks in the name of saving a few dollars every year on the electric bill?" In other words, should congress make a law that bans traditional light bulbs and forces consumers to purchase CFLs as the only choice available?
