5. In his speech, President Obama will say he "wants to return to the values that define America, where hard work pays off and where responsibility -- not recklessness -- is rewarded." Ask a parent whether he/she thinks the policies of President Obama's Democratic party, the policies of the Republican party, the policies of both, or neither support this idea, and to explain his/her answer.
6. In a president's last year in office, he is often referred to as a "lame duck" because it is believed that he will be ineffective in carrying out any current or new policies.
