3. Why are the Republican presidential candidates taking control of establishing new ground rules with the broadcasters sponsoring the debates?
4. How will the campaigns review the debate format with each media sponsor going forward?
5. For the first three Republican primary debates, sponsors Fox, CNN and MSNBC had their highest ratings ever. The purpose of the debates is for voters to hear where the candidates stand on the issues.
a) If the candidates do not feel that the debate formats are achieving this goal, is it right for them to band together to discuss specifics with the broadcast moderators? Explain your answer.
b) Some of the other requests the candidates have will be to keep the temperature cooler in the debate area and that their mikes be turned off during breaks. Are these unreasonable requests? Explain your answer.
c) Should the Democratic candidates make similar requests for their debates? Explain your answer.
