7. HOMEWORK: Both sides of the illegal immigration/undocumented worker issue offer polls, statistics and numbers of protesters as proof that the majority of American citizens agree with their view. Try an unscientific ANONYMOUS poll in your class:
(1) Teacher will distribute 2 pieces of the same size scrap paper to each student
(2) Student will ask a parent or another adult (relative, neighbor, boss) to choose the one with which they most agree:
-I support the Kennedy/McCain bill that would give the 12 million immigrants here illegally the opportunity to gain U.S. citizenship without returning home first, or
-I support the House of Representatives bill making illegal immigration a felony, or
-I support enforcing current immigration laws, and securing the border now, before any immigration reform bill is proposed, discussed or debated, or
-If opinion is not one of the three above, write his/her opinion instead
(3) Student will write out adult's opinion on one paper (DO NOT WRITE NAME ON PAPER)
(4) Student will write out own opinion on the other piece of paper (DO NOT WRITE NAME ON PAPER)
(5) Teacher will collect adult answers in one pile and student answers in another
(6) Tally answers on the board
Does the majority opinion of adults and students differ?
