A sanctuary city is a municipality that limits or denies its cooperation with the national government in enforcing immigration law. [Sanctuary cities will not cooperate with ICE agents, and refuse to notify ICE agents when an illegal migrant criminal is being released from prison and should be deported.] Sanctuary cities [welcome] illegal migrants, and provide services and resources for them [including taxpayer funded housing, food, medical, education and even cash payments] to acclimate and live in the country and communities in which they arrive. California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced last month that he would "Trump-proof" California by earmarking millions to fund lawsuits to fight deportations, among other things.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said they will fight deportations of people who have not committed crimes. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is opposed to deporting illegal migrants, and would not answer requests for comment when an illegal migrant in a Boston shelter was caught with $1 million in illegal drugs and in possession of a gun.
What is your response to mayors, governors and other elected officials who support their sanctuary cities and vow to block the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws and the apprehension/deportation of illegal migrant criminals? Explain your answer.
