(by Isabel Keane, NY Post) – Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers hit the ground running this week, arresting multiple violent offenders in sanctuary cities, including a hostile Haitian gang member with a lengthy rap sheet who said he’s “not going back to Haiti” and raged “F–k Trump, Biden forever!”
ICE officers in Boston made eight noteworthy arrests, including multiple MS-13 gang members, murder and rape suspects and the Haitian gang member, with at least 17 recent convictions, according to Fox News, who rode along with ICE for the arrests.
There was also at least one “collateral” arrest where ICE took an illegal immigrant who wasn’t their initial target into custody, with the arrest in Boston being of an MS-13 gang member who had been released by the sanctuary city on Tuesday.
As ICE Boston was arresting one illegal immigrant, Fox News reported hearing a woman yell out “thank you!” to the agents.
Some of the arrests were also Interpol* Red Notices, fulfilling requests from other law enforcement agencies to find and arrest a suspect. (*Interpol is the International Criminal Police Organization)
Border Czar Tom Homan warned collateral arrests would be commonplace, especially in sanctuary cities.
“When we find the bad guy, there’s probably others. Others that are in the United States illegally. They may not be a criminal priority but we’re not walking away from them,” he said.
The arrests come as Trump’s administration quickly moves to launch the mass deportation operation he vowed to fulfill during his presidency — a stark shift from former President Joe Biden’s border policies that welcomed some 8 million people in the US illegally.
On Tuesday, Trump’s first full day in office, federal officials nabbed more than 300 illegal migrant criminals in Boston, Denver, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Seattle Washington, DC, and Miami to hold them for deportation, administration officials said.
This week’s deportations are just the start of what Homan has promised will be a renewed effort to boot 700,000 illegal migrants who have committed crimes from the US — meaning sanctuary cities will not be spared.
Earlier this week, Homan said ICE officers have a “target sheet” of migrants with criminal records who they’re looking to arrest and deport.
The Trump Administration is taking strict measures to seal off the southern border from illegal entries.
Border Patrol officers [are no longer required to] release illegal migrants into the country [as the Biden administration forced them to do], Homeland Security sources told The Post.
Meanwhile, 1,500 troops have been sent to the southern border, with a total of 10,000 troops to be deployed as part of the president’s order for the US military to secure the nation’s borders.

A sanctuary city is a municipality that limits or denies its cooperation with the national government in enforcing immigration law. [Sanctuary cities will not cooperate with ICE agents, and refuse to notify ICE agents when an illegal migrant criminal is being released from prison and should be deported.] Sanctuary cities [welcome] illegal migrants, and provide services and resources for them [including taxpayer funded housing, food, medical, education and even cash payments] to acclimate and live in the country and communities in which they arrive. California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced last month that he would “Trump-proof” California by earmarking millions to fund lawsuits to fight deportations, among other things.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said they will fight deportations of people who have not committed crimes. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is opposed to deporting illegal migrants, and would not answer requests for comment when an illegal migrant in a Boston shelter was caught with $1 million in illegal drugs and in possession of a gun.
What is your response to mayors, governors and other elected officials who support their sanctuary cities and vow to block the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws and the apprehension/deportation of illegal migrant criminals? Explain your answer.
Background
President Trump signed several Executive Orders on the border crisis including:
A Jan. 20, 2025 Executive Order “Protecting The American People Against Invasion“
which states, among other items,
Sec. 9. Efficient Removals of Recent Entrants and Other Aliens. The Secretary of Homeland Security shall take all appropriate action, pursuant to section 235(b)(1)(A)(iii)(I) of the INA (8 U.S.C. 1225(b)(1)(A)(iii)(I)), to apply, in her sole and unreviewable discretion, the provisions of section 235(b)(1)(A)(i) and (ii) of the INA to the aliens designated under section 235(b)(1)(A)(iii)(II). Further, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall promptly take appropriate action to use all other provisions of the immigration laws or any other Federal law, including, but not limited to sections 238 and 240(d) of the INA (8 U.S.C. 1228 and 1229a(d)), to ensure the efficient and expedited removal of aliens from the United States.
Sec. 12. Encouraging Voluntary Compliance with the Law. Read the following Executive Order invoking the National Emergencies Act regarding the crisis at the Southern Border of the United States (Jan. 22, 2025):
INVOKING A NATIONAL EMERGENCY: Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order invoking the National Emergencies Act regarding the crisis at the Southern Border of the United States.
- The Executive Order declares a national emergency at the southern border following four years of record-shattering illegal immigration into the U.S.
- It directs the Secretary of Defense to deploy additional personnel to the border, including members of the Armed Forces and the National Guard.
- Additionally, it directs the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security to finish the wall along the southern border and ensures that DHS has all the flexibility it needs to operate air missions near the border.
TAKING BACK CONTROL: For the past four years, the federal government has abdicated its responsibility to enforce the border, resulting in a catastrophic immigration crisis for the United States.
- When States like Texas took steps to prevent illegal crossings into their state, the federal government sought to stop them by cutting down their barriers.
- A record-shattering 8.72 million border encounters have occurred at the southern border from FY21-FY24, overwhelming border resources and endangering communities.
- This has led to untold hundreds of thousands of children being trafficked. Roughly 550,000 unaccompanied alien children have been encountered at the border since FY21. Fentanyl and other drugs are pouring over the border and flooding our communities, killing roughly 75,000 Americans in 2023—the number one cause of death for Americans ages 18-45.
- It has allowed dangerous gangs like the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua to takeover and terrorize entire American cities.
- And it has led to the murders of innocent Americans like Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, Rachel Morin, and many others.
BUILDING ON PAST SUCCESS: America is in a dire situation, and it is past time for the government to act. President Trump first declared an emergency at the Southern Border on February 15, 2019, and continued that emergency on February 13, 2020.
- Following the at-the-time historic surges of illegal aliens in 2018, President Trump declared a national emergency and successfully reduced the number of people seeking to enter the country illegally.
- In 2024, President Trump promised to declare an emergency to secure the border and use the military where necessary to protect Americans from foreign threats.
- This Executive Order will allow the government to gain operational control of the border, combat the cartels, and secure our nation.
- As President Trump described in 2018: “Illegal immigration affects the lives of all Americans. Illegal immigration hurts American workers; burdens American taxpayers; and undermines public safety; and places enormous strain on local schools, hospitals, and communities in general, taking precious resources away from the poorest Americans who need them most. Illegal immigration costs our country billions and billions of dollars each year…And I will therefore take every lawful action at my disposal to address this crisis. And that’s what we’re doing.”
