1. a) What is the World Health Organization?
b) What announcement did the WHO make in March that will eventually lead to the sale of Chinese-made vaccines around the world? (OR outside of China)
2. The GAVI Alliance, which buys vaccines for 50 million children a year worldwide plans on purchasing vaccines made in China. UNICEF, the world's biggest buyer of vaccines, has been in talks with Chinese companies. UNICEF provides vaccines to nearly 60% of the world's children, and last year spent about $757 million. Aside from the concerns of these agencies [which are partially funded by U.S. taxpayers], what challenges do Chinese companies face in convincing the rest of the world to purchase its vaccines?
3. How has the Chinese government attempted to alleviate the problem of Chinese drug companies producing/selling drugs that are harmful or even deadly to patients who use them?
4. What safeguards are in place in the U.S. that ensure the safety and reliability of our pharmaceutical products?
