Jill Abramson, former investigative reporter and Washington bureau chief for The New York Times, who has just been named executive editor.  Ms. Abramson, 57, said that as a born-and-raised New Yorker, she considered being named editor of The Times to be like “ascending to Valhalla.” [NOTE: Valhalla is heaven in Norse mythology.]
