University of Minnesota Professor William Doherty, who helped angry parents in St. Paul, Minn. launch “Birthdays Without Pressure” to combat over-the-top kids’ parties. Among their examples of past crass: stretch limos for the classmates of a 7-year-old, and a 6-year-old declaring his gift bag was “a rip-off.”
