Manny Pacquiao says he was misconstrued. In an interview with Granville Ampong, a blogger for Examiner.com, the Filipino boxing star disapproved of same-sex marriage:
Pacquiao . . . believes the sweeping campaign of Obama favoring the gays and lesbians to legally marry is nothing more than a direct attack on the moral society and against the creative power and will of God.
Pacquiao continues: “God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married, only if they so are in love with each other.”
“It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old.”
Ampong introduced Pacquiao’s statement by quoting Leviticus 20:13: … In a statement quoted by Los Angeles’ KTLA-TV, “Pacquiao’s camp” distanced the boxer from the Old Testament passage: “Pacquiao is simply against the marriage of anyone that is not Man and Woman as he believes is stated in the Bible. ‘I didn’t say that, that’s a lie. . . . I didn’t know that quote from Leviticus because I haven’t read the Book of Leviticus yet,’ he said.” Maybe he’s reading from back to front.
But here’s where things get interesting. Yesterday Pacquiao gave an interview to “Extra,” a syndicated entertainment news program that usually is produced at The Grove at Farmers Market, a shopping center in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles. “On Monday night,” KTLA reports,” a post on the Grove’s Twitter account read: ‘Boxer Manny Pacquiao is not welcome at @TheGroveLA. @TheGroveLA is a gathering place for all Angelenos, not a place for intolerance.’ “ So Pacquiao was forced to do the interview from another location.
It’s a wonderful little example of the left’s inverted idea of “tolerance”: They’ll tolerate you as long as you don’t deviate from their orthodoxy. …..
