The Pitts of Hell
Leonard Pitts, a columnist for the Miami Herald, praises [Democratic] Rep. Maxine Waters for saying that “the Tea Party can go straight to hell.” Pitts acknowledges that “telling people to go to hell is about as uncivil as it gets,” and he wants you to know that he hates incivility: “I could never, in ordinary times, applaud such conduct.”
But–you guessed it–“no one will ever mistake these for ordinary times.” At least at the moment, Pitts hates dissent even more than he hates incivility, so hooray for Maxine Waters. (He hasn’t weighed in, as far as we know, on [Democratic] Rep. Andre Carson’s comment that some of his Tea Party colleagues “would love to see you and me . . . hanging on a tree.”)
By our count Pitts is the 4,812th liberal public figure to denounce incivility on the right while cheering it on the left…
