Fast Cars and Fast Women
Vicky Hartzler is the Republican nominee in Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District. Nate Silver rates her a very slight favorite to beat Rep. Ike Skelton, the 17-term incumbent who serves as chairman of the Armed Services Committee. Hartzler is on the move in more ways than one, the Kansas City Star reports:

Hartzler’s way of running for office means visiting a lot of voters. And in the 4th District, a mostly rural area, that means lots of driving. In less than a month she estimates she has driven 50,000 miles.

That’s a lot of driving! Let’s assume that “less than a month” means 30 days, and that she spends six hours a day sleeping and two hours outside her car (at actual campaign stops and so forth). That would mean she’s driven 50,000 miles in 480 hours, for an average speed of 104 miles an hour. At that rate, it’s hard to see how she can lose the race, though it’s also hard to see how she can keep her drivers license.
