‘Hands-Free’ Shoes

“Helping him on and off with his shoes got pretty old, and I was thinking it would be nice if shoes existed that he could step into and would (fasten) for him automatically.”
New Yorker Steve Kaufman, who spent six years developing Quikiks, a line of footwear that helps physically challenged people put their own shoes on.  Kaufman was inspired by his 19-year-old son, Alex, who has scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and was having trouble putting his shoes on because of the heavy brace he wore.
“I got the idea six years ago when Alex had to wear a big, plastic torso brace 22 hours a day that prevented him from bending over.”
