The GOP (the official Republican Party) does not want Donald Trump to win the Republican presidential primary. They have been trying to undermine his campaign subtly (and maybe not so subtly) but it only continues to make them look bad. Nothing they do to back a “serious” candidate has any effect on Trump’s popularity.
